Christmas Day – the start of the 12 days of Christmas

I'm in bed with Mainie next to me, she's holding a picture book - The Twelve Days of Christmas. Our text reads ''the 12 days of Christmas start on Christmas Day'.

Happy Christmas! And yes, it’s still Christmas. Christmas Day is the start of the 12 days of Christmas, not the end. (Yes. This is a hill I’m prepared to die on.)

I’ve been even more horizontal than usual since a frustrating leg bang a few days ago. So here’s a relatively rare (given how much time I spend here) picture of me in bed.

We’ll be eating a lot of cheese, singing Christmas songs, and keeping our decorations up till the 6th of January – when Christmas really will be over.

The 12 Days of Christmas is a beautiful picture book by Lara Hawthorne, published by Quarto. Most books with the title are rewritings – we wanted a book with the original words we can sing with. It’s not one we rep, but we’re very pleased with it. And Mainie is very tickled by some of the illustrations (swipe below!).

3 – second slide: a photo of the hardback picture book The 12 Days of Christmas by Lara Hawthorne, published by Quarto.

4 – first slide: a close-up of Mainie’s laughing face. Text reads “swipe to see the page Mainie’s laughing about”.

5 – second slide: “in this book, a goose is laying on the loo. Which is delightful.” Photo is of an illustration from the book, showing a goose doing exactly that.]
