For teachers – free downloads, ages 4 to 10
We know a lot of teachers are using What Happened to You? in schools, so we got an actual teacher – Ale from Read with River – to create a lesson plan with us. Thanks to Faber, the UK publisher, for commissioning it. you can find it on their website too.
And there’s now a US version of the lesson plan from Little Brown – at the bottom of this page.
These learning resources were put together with a view to teaching in the UK and internationally. In the UK, Early Years Foundation Stage and Year 1 covers from four to six years old, and Years 2, 3 & 4 covers ages six to ten. You can download the pdfs for free just below.

Ages six to ten: UK Years 2, 3 and 4
Little Brown have helpfully made a US version – adapted from the young lesson plan above.
The US lesson plan – ages 3 to 6
If you don’t have a copy of the book yet, it’s available in most bookshops, and from our local Blackwell’s, who deliver internationally. It’s illustrated by Karen George, and published by Faber in the UK, and Little Brown in the US.

Edit 23rd August: the reference to “hearing impairment” should read “D/deaf” instead – we’re trying to change this in the pdf.

2024: We’ve now written two more books – You’re So Amazing and Mama Car. You can find out more about all our books here, if you like. And find teaching resources for all our books here.

[…] We’re not teachers – we’re parents, and we work in children’s publishing. But because we’re disabled and write about children’s books and disability, teachers often ask if we have any tips for the classroom. (Our picture book What Happened to You? now also has a lesson plan, created with us by an actual teacher, which you can find here.) […]
